The Journey to CrossPoint Church

Vision is at the heart of all ministry or it should be. True vision comes from God and it must be implemented His way or it loses its significance and purpose. The last few months our church has purchased a new facility and now is in the midst of renovating a Historical Church in one of the most beautiful cities on the East Coast, Newport, RI.

Prior to our moving into this new location God impressed upon my heart that the name of our church also needed to change. But why change? Most people hate change and pastors are no exception. Changing the name of the church that my wife and I birth almost 9 years ago was like changing the name of our children. We have grown accustomed to their face and name.

New Beginnings Praise & Worship Center was a new beginning for my wife and I as we left our church that we grow up in after more than 20 years of serving. As I begin to seek God and asked for direction, I was not satisfied with any name that I came up with. I knew it had to be shorter than our current name and it must convey a message that would bring our church into a new level of maturity.

Well after many months of going back and forth with names I settled upon the name CrossPoint Church. Why CrossPoint? First the significance of the cross, whenever you embrace the cross of Christ in your daily walk it leads you to spiritual maturity. Also the word cross means stepping into a new dimension or season. Our church was about to literally “Cross over into our Purpose & Destiny.”

Using the word church in our name instead of center really conveys what CrossPoint should be, a church. I thought about how the church is the bride of Christ and it was birthed through His dead on the cross and His resurrection gave the church the power to bring people into the Kingdom of God.

As our church continues to grow and mature in the vision God has given, we anticipate that many souls will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. We are excited about the endless possibilities that lie up ahead and we look forward to see our God magnified and lifted up in our city.
